Although mostly known as an ink painter, Wang Jinsong has also expressed social awareness through photographic pieces that deal with modernization in China. Wang’s photographic practice often involves the serial presentation of the same subject—for example, family portraits, demolition signs, and façades of construction sites. These large-scale collages all convey his concern with transformation through economic reform in China.
