Ethiopian, b. 1975; lives and works in Addis Ababa
Michael Tsegaye’s Future Memories chronicles life in contemporary Addis Ababa through topographic cityscapes and poignant views of inhabitants and the old villages that used to define the metropolis. With a medium-format camera and using black-and-white film, Tsegaye constructs a careful timeline of meteoric architectural development within the city. Retaining a durable tension through their emotive undercurrents, he conveys his way of "capturing and immortalizing what will—or already has—faded into the past."
