Chinese, b. 1964; lives and works in Beijing, China
Miao Xiaochun studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and the Kunsthochschule Kassel in Germany in the late 1990s. Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Photography and Digital Media at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Combining traditional photography and digital manipulation, Miao often captures the urbanization of Chinese cities in a distant, panoramic style, indicating the dynamism of China’s social masses in the 21st century. Since the early 2000s, he has created multiple series of spectacular new media works, which include his technically accomplished video installations that combine German classical music with Surrealist images.
